Heritage & History

Leveraging a Legacy

Our roots run deep. The Trust that governs this school is more than eighty years old; this Gurugram campus has served its city for three decades.

The Beginning — Peshawar, 1941

The Salwan Education Trust was founded in 1941 at Peshawar by late Pandit Girdhari Lal Salwan — a true patriot and visionary dedicated to nation-building. He championed a single, radical principle: education should be accessible to all, regardless of background, rooted in justice and inclusivity.

Education for All

Driven by the ideology of “Education for All,” Pt. G. L. Salwan established a network of institutions — the Salwan Sanatan Dharam High Schools (1942), Salwan Boys School (1949), Salwan Girls School (1952), and Salwan Public School (1953). Over the last 80 years, the Trust has set unparalleled benchmarks in education, nurturing young minds with a blend of academic excellence, values, and holistic development. Today, 08 schools are being run successfully under the aegis of Salwan Education Trust, carrying forward the legacy with an unwavering commitment to quality education, social responsibility, and nation-building.

Our Mission

Developing self-directed, confident learners equipped with diverse competencies — ready to shape a better tomorrow.

Guided by the founder’s principle of “Education for All,” we help every student discover their potential and develop the character to use it in the service of others.

Service Before Self

Our vision is to nurture empowered citizens with universal values. The motto that carries it — Service Before Self, and Tamso ma Jyotirgamaya, inscribed on the Salwan crest — is a living practice: to illuminate minds through knowledge, dispel ignorance, and put the collective good ahead of personal gain.

The Rising Sun

The Salwan logo — The Rising Sun — is a manifestation of the school’s cherished philosophy of Service Before Self. Just as the sun rises each day to give light without expectation of return, it reminds our community to serve others willingly, graciously, and selflessly.

Our Core Values

Every student is developed into a progressive global citizen who preserves the institution’s legacy while demonstrating a humanistic outlook and moral integrity. Eight values guide that journey.

  • We raise the bar every time. In the classroom, on the field, in service to our communities. Mediocrity is never the standard; mastery and continuous improvement are. Every teacher, student, and staff member measures success not by effort alone, but by impact and growth.

    Examples in action

    • Teacher: Dr. Shilpa’s low-cost genetics kit, built with a ₹5,000 budget, made complex biology concepts tangible and improved student performance from a 6 to 9 average score.
    • Student: Senior students in the Robotics Club and Art Society iterate on their projects across multiple exhibitions, refining design and execution until they meet their own benchmarks for quality.
    • Admin: Principals and academic coordinators publish improvement dashboards each term, sharing transparent progress on academics, co-curriculars, and attendance goals.
    • Teacher: Physics faculty such as Vani Ranga integrate sports (olympics) examples to connect theory with real-world application, raising the intellectual standard of lessons.
  • We take responsibility. For our actions, our learning, our teams, and our results. In a world where change is constant, we run toward responsibility as opportunity. No problem is “someone else’s problem.” We act like owners, not passengers.

    Examples in action

    • Student: From MUN conferences to cultural festivals and inter-house sports, student councils lead planning, budgeting, and post-event reviews with faculty mentorship.
    • Teacher: Mathematics teachers like Heena Malhotra recalibrate lessons and pacing based on comprehension levels in each section, ensuring every student progresses meaningfully.
    • Admin: School leadership teams act quickly on feedback, resolving classroom or facility issues with clarity and follow-through rather than passing responsibility.
    • Student: Peer-led bridge classes allow older students to tutor juniors, modeling initiative and accountability for group success.
  • We act with awareness that our school is part of a larger whole — our neighbourhood, our city and our nation. We show up as proactive citizens who serve, volunteer, and build. Our community engagement is not symbolic; it is how we learn leadership and empathy.

    Examples in action

    • Teacher: Faculty guide students through local projects. From plantation drives and cleanliness campaigns to literacy programs, making community work a part of lesson design.
    • Student: Students organize fundraisers for charities or partner with NGOs to run health awareness and environmental campaigns.
    • Parent + School: Parent-led sessions on topics like cyber safety, entrepreneurship, and Vedic mathematics open classrooms to community expertise.
    • Admin: School administrators ensure events like Samman Diwas and Founders’ Day highlight civic engagement, volunteerism, and shared responsibility between students, staff, and alumni.
  • We embrace curiosity, experimentation, and smart risk-taking. Innovation is not limited to technology; it means finding better ways to teach, learn, and operate. We reward ideas that simplify, elevate, or expand opportunity.

    Examples in action

    • Teacher: Science and math teachers pilot new learning tools. From GeoGebra to AI-assisted worksheets, and share results with peers across schools through internal workshops and inter-school forums.
    • Student: Learners in clubs such as RoboCoders and GreenTech build prototypes that tackle real-world problems in sustainability, design, and automation.
    • Admin: The Trust’s leadership celebrates teacher-led innovations annually, whether low-cost teaching kits, new assessment formats, or creative lesson experiments.
    • Teacher: Language and social science departments experiment with AI-based writing prompts, interactive simulations, and music in lessons, encouraging curiosity and creative risk-taking.
  • We believe growth is lifelong. We reflect, seek feedback, and adapt, personally and institutionally. Every classroom is a lab for improvement.

    Examples in action

    • Teacher: Faculty participate in fellowships, webinars, and conferences. Such as workshops with Prof. H.C. Verma or AI integration sessions, and bring new ideas back to their departments.
    • Student: Students maintain journals or digital portfolios tracking personal goals and learning reflections through the year.
    • Admin: The Trust circulates quarterly learning reports to share best practices, highlight innovation, and encourage cross-campus collaboration.
    • Community: Alumni Connect programs link current students to graduates who model continuous learning and professional growth, extending education beyond school walls.
  • We earn trust through honesty, fairness, and empathy. We respect diverse voices and perspectives, and create safe spaces to speak and learn. Discipline is not about control; it’s about respect for oneself and others.

    Examples in action

    • Admin: Across the Trust, transparency in decision-making, funding, and leadership appointments reinforces a culture of fairness and accountability.
    • Teacher: Inclusive classrooms led by teachers such as Alka Vinaik ensure children with special needs or from economically weaker backgrounds receive individualized attention and emotional support.
    • Student: Student mediation councils promote peer respect and empathy, resolving classroom conflicts through dialogue rather than discipline.
